Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. The drive to Materuni takes about an hour, passing through scenic countryside and small Chagga villages. Beautiful rural landscapes, warm Chagga hospitality, and clear views of Kilimanjaro’s slopes on sunny days.
Midday — Hike to Materuni Waterfalls
The hike to Materuni Falls takes about 45 minutes to an hour, following a scenic trail through banana farms, tropical plants, and coffee fields. Along the way, your guide will explain the local agriculture and point out medicinal plants and native trees. Best Time to Visit Materuni
Materuni is beautiful year-round, but the best months are during the dry seasons — June to October and December to February. Trails are easier to hike, and visibility of Mount Kilimanjaro is excellent. During the green season (March to May), the landscape is especially lush, though paths may be muddy.
Travel Tips
- Wear comfortable hiking shoes — the trail can be slippery after rain.
- Bring swimwear and a towel if you plan to swim at the waterfall.
- Carry a light rain jacket and sunscreen.
- Don’t forget your camera — Materuni’s views are spectacular.
